A Woman in Hot Water

Oh I have had a long week this week…TGIF!
In an effort to divert my thoughts about this week from hell, I decided to fondly remember the easy days. Mine were way back before I had the triple M’s (mortgage, marriage and midgets) and before I decided to run my own freelance business. Gee those were some heady days, just working for ‘the man’ and joyfully clocking off at the end of the work day, having a Friday night drink, arriving home, kicking off my completely impractical sky high heels and relaxing with nothing but the weekend ahead of me.
It was while reminiscing about my time in the surety and nurtured surrounds of an office, that I recalled how I would read the inspirational quote on the bottom of my mass-produced generic desk calendar each day. Some of them didn’t stick but it seems that one in particular did because in the craziness of my week it just happened to pop into my head…
Strange I know but clearly sending me a poignant message in my turmoil of toilet training a 3 year old, while attending to a runny nosed and koala-esque clingy 11 month old, topped off with trying to maintain an unexpectedly busy and deadline driven freelance business. Imagine in all the mayhem and stress I’m confronted with this quote…I did the only thing I could…I rallied, had a cry, took most of it out on the personal trainer’s boxing pads and best of all I survived.
So now it’s Friday night and what have I learnt this week? Firstly, I know my ‘easy days’ are far and few between but that’s ok because I wouldn't have it any other way...
I’m working for me, not ‘the man'.
I’ve slipped off my ballet flats and not some masochistic stilettos.
I poured a glass of red…well that part hasn’t changed
And I can relax with nothing but a fun-filled weekend with my family ahead.
