An Introduction to Parenting
December 30th 2006 03:23
Hello Everybody,
I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. My name is George and I’m going to be taking over the Parents Precinct. While I didn’t start the blog I have a great interest in parenting and the challenges that children, parents, and families face in their day to day lives. It is actually one of my passions and I believe is one of the most important jobs we have in this world.
Margaret Mead put it this way, “The solution to adult problems tomorrow depends on large measure upon the how our children grow up today. There is no greater insight into the future than recognizing when we save our children, we save ourselves.” It is with this passion that I have founded a company that facilitates parenting classes in schools, churches, and the community in the hopes of making the world a better place.
I hope that this blog will become a safe place for people to come and share their thoughts, feelings, and insights into parenting. I come from a perspective that I call “child-centered” parenting and it has its roots in the idea that the child is a loving spiritual being that has a world within itself that will only be revealed to us by careful attention and nurturing. The child will reveal to us all its gifts and talents it has been born with and it is our job as parents to uncover these mysteries. I will explain more of my thinking as the blog unfolds and while I know that much of what I will say may go against common thinking, I hope that this will be a place for others to learn more about me and I them.
I will also share experiences that I see fit into parenting in general. I hope that some of you who have been here already will stop by and introduce yourself. I look forward to your comments and feedback. I want to make this a place of support as well as information. Since no two children are the same, and what works for one child may not work for another, I hope this can be a place for solutions to challenges that parents may be having with their children. I have a beautiful four year old child, who is extremely smart, and while I love her more than life itself, I find the career of parenting the toughest and most rewarding thing I have ever done.
I look forward to meeting you all,
George

It's a pleasure to meet you.
I've got two children and another on the way and I'm always interested to read about other people's experiences and beliefs regarding parenting.
Good luck with Parents Precinct.
