Whats in a Name?

For years, my favourite name for a boy has been Daniel. It has good connotations for me. I knew a lovely very cute boy at high school called Daniel. I always thought that if I had a boy I would call him Daniel.
Unfortunately I ummed and ahhed about having children so long that my friend got in first and had a boy and named him Daniel. It is not her fault she did not realise I had that one locked away for my own personal use.
It’s a hard job picking a name, almost as hard as trying to decide whether to have kids at all. You need to practice saying a few aloud to find one that sounds just right, “Stop drawing on the wall Eugene”. “Don’t pull the cats tail Ethel”
So if I was to have a boy am I allowed to use the name Daniel now? Or does my friend now have sole rights to that name? Would it be weird if I do use it?

if you are best buddies forever maybe just have a distinguishable second name, or start referring to her daniel as danny on the side haha

I liked Daniel too...but my husband didn't go for it.
I say go for it. I named my last Christian and there is already a cousin with that name.
