Ad Removed after Outrage over Gay Kiss

June 27th 2008 09:15
heinz gay kiss

Heinz UK removed a TV ad which showed two men kissing after receiving over 200 complaints from viewers who felt it was ‘inappropriate, and ‘unsuitable to be seen by children’.

Many parents complained that they had to explain same sex relationships to their children, after they were asked why the two men were kissing.

Not only has Heinz managed to offend their conservative customers, they have offended gay groups who are threatening to boycott Heinz products, for bowing to public pressure, and removing the ad.

With so many same sex couples raising children nowadays, surely this advertisement is just a reflection of the way society has changed.

You can remove ads from TV but eventually kids will come into contact with someone with two mummies or two daddies and you will have to explain it then, it’s just the way society is.
Have a look see what you think.

That's ridiculous! With the UK's huge population, they listened to 200 complaints?! Ridiculous.

I agree but you know how is goes in society the loudest group gets the attention, the silent majority gets ignored.

that is the least sexual kiss i have ever seen! haha
and everyone refers to the man as "mum" so the joke is she is really a woman who is temporarily appearing like a New York deli sandwich-maker because she is using the "Heinz Deli Mayo" . . . god lighten up complainers, its actually quite clever and funny!

Oh good grief. Is satire lost on the general public?

I agree the ad is quite funny on several levels and very clever. Beats most of the boring ads on TV.

It would seem that the Brits don't have a sense of humour about these things. Wonder what would happen if this ad was aired in Australia?

Unfortunately it's the loud minority that always manage to change things.

I liked the ad, I thought it was funny.

I doubt this ad would be aired in Australia. I think the closest we've come is to have 2 guys standing next to a new car.

Love & stuff
