From Small Beginnings
March 6th 2008 20:30
I was nearly 35 years old when I became a mother for the first time. Prior to that, I had no experience with babies. When I was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, I was nervous and excited. This blog will be an opportunity to share the joys of parenthood. First though I will take you to where it all began for me.
My pregnancy was uneventful really. Everything was on track. I had a check up at 29 weeks the bump was measured and was exactly the right size. The heart rate was perfect. Therefore, two weeks later when I had a bit of back pain and cramping I figured I had Braxton Hicks and quietly took myself off to bed. After all, I was only 30 and a half weeks pregnant and I had heard that Braxton Hicks are fairly normal at this time. I did not call the hospital straight away because I did not want the midwives to think I was another paranoid first time mother.
When I finally decided to call the hospital and go in, I was shocked to find that not only was I in labour but I was 5 cm dilated. After two scary days in hospital I had a healthy baby girl. She came out screaming which means she could breathe on her own and didn’t need oxygen.
She had to spend four weeks in hospital growing before I was allowed to bring her home. By which time the nurses had taught me how to change a nappy feed and bath her.
I spent the next few weeks scouring websites to find out why I went into preterm labour and there are a number suggested risk factors given on websites such as austprem.org.au and mydoctor.com.au, but none of them applied to me and in the end even, the doctors that delivered my baby did not know.
My daughter is now gorgeous, happy, healthy, and developing at the same rate as other babies her age.

I now run 2 websites called Moment by Moment
MOMENT BY MOMENT
which is a supportive site that provides information, personal stories, pictures of premmie babies and products. If you would ever like to write your story out so we can add it to our list please go to the website and contact me. Your story could help someone else through their experience and is a huge reason why I put the site together.
I also run another site called Cafe Prem this site is a personal blogging site and community that allows families and heath professionals share their experiences through the nicu, special care and beyond. Again if you would like to sign up and share your experiences and how your little girl and you have grown through your experience please check it out
CAFE PREM
Both sites have been set up to bridge the gap and provide support, products and information in the one area. Please pass these details onto anyone you think would find them useful and hopefully we will hear from you soon.
Kind regards
