One of my close relatives has died.
The funeral has been finalised, and all details confirmed except for the final number of attendees; everyone's waiting on us to decide if we'll take the children or not.
Our kids were not particularly close to this recently deceased relative, so they have not been greatly affected by the whole event ... plus, I don't think they really understand the concept of death yet anyway.
The whole topic has become a political minefield. My Sister wants them to come because her children will be there, whilst my Mother would rather they weren't there as she knows how draining it can be for parents to have their kids around during an emotional event.
Personally, I think our kids don't need to be there. They don't need to 'mourn' as they didn't have a close relationship with this relative, so I think I'll spare them from the whole event.
Unfortunately for them, there'll be plenty of other opportunities during their lifetime to attend a similar event.
